Inquiry Learning Model: Kath Murdoch

  • Generative questions: What is the inquiry really about?
  • Understandings, skills and values: What do we want the students to understand more deeply? Students self assess skills and understanding at the beginning and end of the unit.
  • Tuning in (to the students, not just the topic!): Engagement and gathering prior knowledge, pre assessment questions for inquiry, goal setting.
  • Finding out: Experiences and texts that add to knowledge base - emphasis on gathering data first hand and in a range of ways.
  • Sorting out: Organising, anaylsing, and communicating the information gathered using a range of learnign areas.
  • Going further: Raising or revisiting questions, extending experiences, challenging assumptions - usually individually negotiated.
  • Drawing conclusions: Stating revisited understandings - What do we think and know now? How do we feel? High level thinking about the topic. Now what? - taking action.
